Solihull MP, Lorely Burt today met in Westminster with the Head of Human Resources for British Gas, Simon Ashby following last week's announcement that the company intends to make 1100 redundancies at their Blythe Valley office in Solihull.
"I was saddened to hear of the announcement. It will come as a severe blow for the families of workers concerned and indeed, the wider community across Solihull and the West Midlands.
"I have received assurances that there will be no immediate redundancies, and there will be a full support package in place, with at least eight months notice for those facing job losses.
"I was also told that employees will be offered transfers wherever possible, and that there will be enhanced redundancy payments. Bonuses will also be paid for those who work through until an agreed date.
"A counselling hotline for employees and families will be established and British Gas will assist with retraining opportunities and advertise skills on offer to local firms," said Mrs Burt.
