MP backs firework safety campaign

Local Member of Parliament Lorely Burt has praised a licensed fireworks retailer in Hobs Moat for mounting their own fireworks safety campaign. Kulvinder Sura, owner of the family run Paul Newsagents has arranged the distribution of over 5000 leaflets to homes in the area encouraging families to have fun and play safe with fireworks on November 5th.
The Lib Dem MP for Solihull visited the shop last week to hear about the campaign.
"Kulvinder and his family deserve the highest praise for their efforts to ensure that family celebrations do not end up in tragedy. I know that residents really appreciate their efforts," said Mrs Burt.
Kulvinder Sura said:
"Just one tragic accident is too many on Guy Fawkes night. This year we decided to take the initiative by promoting our 'play safe' campaign for people organising their own firework displays.
"All our fireworks are made in the UK to British Standards, and perfectly safe if they are handled carefully. We have downloaded two leaflets from a Government website to promote firework safety. One leaflet appeals to younger children and the other to teenagers.
"We have received very positive feedback about the leaflets from customers visiting the shop. We wanted to do something to show that we're not here just to sell fireworks. We're here to ensure that people who buy them enjoy their celebrations without suffering a tragic accident," added Kulvinder.
