Local Member of Parliament supports moves to protect animal welfare.

November 24, 2005 3:55 PM

Solihull MP Lorely Burt has supported parliamentary moves to protect animal welfare, by signing two Early Day Motions.

Lorely Burt said "83% of GP in a recent survey said they would welcome an independent scientific review of all animal testing. I fully support such calls - there is no place for animal testing in a civilised 21st Century society where other alternatives are available."

Early Day Motion 92 submitted by a Liberal Democrat MP calls upon the Government to review commission an independent evaluation of animal testing for medical research. Early Day Motion 341 supports the creation of a "welfare offence" which requires a duty of care towards animals.

Lorely added "Last year 3 neglected horses were found with hooves more than 14 inches long. A specific offence of neglect towards animals will give them greater protection."

If you are a resident of the Solihull constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
