Liberal Democrat Small Business spokesperson and Member of Parliament for Solihull, Lorely Burt MP, today challenged the Government's assertion that the Business Link system is working successfully to aid small businesses.
Commenting after the launch of the Federation of Small Businesses' Biennial Membership Survey, Ms Burt said:
"The Government may be satisfied with the performance of Business Link, but many businesses simply aren't using the service. Too often businesses are offered inappropriate services or advice, or they simply do not know what services are offered in the first place."
Ms Burt also condemned figures showing that only 14% of small businesses are owned by women:
"It is a disgrace that women constitute such a small percentage of small business owners. Much more needs to be done to attract and enable women into business."
