CAMERON MUST NOW BACK LORELY'S LAW

April 12, 2006 10:00 AM

Lorely Burt, Liberal Democrat MP for Solihull, has welcomed Conservative Leader David Cameron's backing of the campaign to halt windfall developments and hopes he will back her Private Member's Bill that would halt windfall development.

During a visit to Solihull last Thursday, David Cameron told reporters that he didn't think it was right for back gardens to be classed as brownfield sites and that they would try to change the law.

Lorely Burt MP has written to David Cameron asking him to back her Bill, the Local Government and Planning (Parkland and Windfall Development) Bill, which would make the gardens of private houses greenfield sites and restrict Council's powers to sell off parkland for development and sign her Early Day Motion on the Protection of Parkland.

Commenting on David Cameron's admission of support, Lorely Burt MP said,

"If David Cameron sticks to his word, then I look forward to my Bill having support from the Conservative benches when it receives its Second Reading in October.

"It is important that parkland and gardens are preserved from in-filling. Solihull is lucky to have some wonderful green spaces and my law would ensure that these are preserved in Solihull and many other towns around the country.

"I look forward to seeing David Cameron and his Conservative colleagues in the "Yes" lobby in October."

If you are a resident of the Solihull constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
