Solihull MP, Lorely Burt has welcomed the clean up of 200 NTL Telewest junction boxes that have been the subjected to repeated graffiti attacks across the borough.
Mrs Burt has received a stream of complaints from constituents fed up with graffiti scrawled over the junction boxes, and contacted Council officers and NTL Telewest to encourage efforts to find a solution to the problem.
Lorely Burt MP said:
"Telephone junction boxes seem to be a favourite target for graffiti vandals and have become an unsightly eyesore, giving a very poor impression if they are left uncleaned.
"I am pleased that a start has been made with the recent completion of a programme to repaint 200 defaced boxes, and would encourage anyone who has any information about graffiti vandalism to report the matter to the police.
"Graffiti vandalism is a senseless act that can undermine a neighbourhood and certainly wastes money in cleaning bills that we all, ultimately pay for.
"Negotiations are currently underway between Solihull Council and NTL Telewest to coat junction boxes in high profile sites on arterial roads, near schools and shopping centres with an anti graffiti coating that would prevent paint or fly posters being applied. I would encourage any move to find a long term solution to this problem."
