Research conducted by Liberal Democrat Women and Equalities Spokesperson, Lorely Burt MP, shows that under 10% of Directors of the 4 major global record companies are women, despite a recent report illustrating that "technology-savvy" women are driving the online music market.
Commenting, Ms Burt said:
"Women spend longer listening to music than their male counterparts, discover more music and listen to more podcasts and yet are massively under-represented in the boardroom.
"Despite a huge boom in the number of women reading music magazines, the corporate side of the industry is deprived of their influence.
"I call on the music industry to acknowledge the financial contribution of their customers and remove roadblocks that prevent business women fulfilling their ambition in the sector."
