Lorely Burt MP encourages use of electric cars in West Midlands

June 28, 2006 12:00 AM

Solihull MP, Lorely Burt has today signed a parliamentary motion congratulating GoinGreen on selling more than 500 G-wiz electric cars in and around London and welcomes their plans to expand into the West Midlands.

The GoinGreen G-wiz is the first mass produced, commercially available and one hundred per cent emission free electric car in Europe. It was recently voted 'most environmentally friendly car in the UK', and as well as being good for the environment it brings many benefits for consumers. The car can travel five to six hundred miles for the cost of a gallon of petrol, and their compact size reduces the difficulty of parking in city centres.

Sustainable forms of energy use are essential in the modern world, due to the depletion of oil reserves and a growing awareness of the importance of reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Lorely Burt said:

"It is essential that we tackle climate change and I hope members will recognise the potential for a dramatic breakthrough in the fight against city air pollution and global warming and sign the motion proposed by LibDem colleague, Paul Keetch MP.

"I am delighted that the company has decided to move into the West Midlands and I encourage all my constituents in Solihull to do their bit for the environment and give the G-wiz a test drive."
