Solihull MP, Lorely Burt has welcomed the decision of Touchwood to withdraw from a proposed ' Baked Bean Amnesty' promotional event by Heinz scheduled for this weekend.
Responding to the decision, Lorely Burt said,
"Heinz have treated the people of Solihull with contempt. I don't blame Touchwood for rejecting a company who didn't even know that Touchwood is in Solihull and not Birmingham. However, this pales into insignificance over their insensitivity towards the people of the West Midlands generally, following their announcement of the loss of 125 HP sauce workers' jobs and the removal of HP sauce making to Holland.
"Heinz have totally underestimated the strength of feeling of people in the West Midlands against this disgraceful decision and their subsequent refusal to remove the House of Commons image - the very symbol of Britishness - from their labels.
"We can now only speculate what reception they would have received in Touchwood on Saturday."
