Lorely Burt has supported a motion in Parliament urging Health Secretary Patricia Hewitt to act to ensure that doctors can continue to use their clinical judgement to prescribe effective Alzheimer's drug treatments to those who can benefit.
The action follows the recent decision of NICE to restrict access to NHS drug treatments to people in the moderate stages of Alzheimer's disease.
Lorely Burt said
"It is so important that people with dementia continue to have access to effective drug treatments.
"This decision is completely unacceptable and will deny vulnerable people in the early and later stages of Alzheimer's disease access to drug treatments that improve quality of life."
