'GUARD AGAINST INCREASED FIRE RISK AT CHRISTMAS' - LORELY BURT MP

West Midlands Fire Service paid a visit to the home of Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt this week. Mrs Burt took up the offer of a free home fire safety check by firefighters from Solihull Fire Station, and is recommending other residents do the same.

Lorely Burt MP said:

"The risk of fire in the home, particularly at Christmas, can be reduced by a free visit from local firefighters who will advise on how to make your home safer.

"Smoke alarms in our home were replaced free of charge and we were also advised on potential dangers from extension cables and the positioning of appliances. The call could save your life, so it is worth making - just ring 0800 389 5525 for an appointment."

"Top tips to stay safe this Christmas included: replacing square adaptors with fused multi-plug extension cables; putting candles in a saucer of water in case you forget to snuff them out; switching all appliances including Christmas tree lights off and closing doors before you go to bed; and never removing batteries from smoke alarms to operate children's toys! Don't forget, you can arrange a free home fire check at any time of the year."
