LORELY BURT MP RAISES QUESTIONS IN PARLIAMENT ON VIOLENCE IN LOCAL HOSPITALS

March 6, 2007 3:50 PM

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has tabled questions to Secretary of State for Health, Patricia Hewitt asking her what steps her department is taking to combat violence in local hospitals.

The questions follow last week's shock revelations about attacks experienced by doctors and nurses at Heartlands Hospital.

Figures broadcast o the BBC's Panorama programme showed more than four assaults are reported by hospitals and GPs in Birmingham and Solihull every day.

Lorely Burt MP said:

"I was shocked to hear of the scale of violence aimed at hospital staff as they try to go about their jobs. This situation cannot be allowed to continue and ministers must take their share of responsibility for ensuring that doctors ad nurses are safe working in the NHS.

I have tabled questions asking what actions are being taken in Heartlands and Solihull hospitals and nationwide to find out what is being done to tackle the problem."

If you are a resident of the Solihull constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
