A Midlands MP who campaigned against the loss of HP sauce production from Aston has said that it will be a "sad day" for the region when production finally halts tomorrow.
Lorely Burt, who is the MP for Solihull, previously led efforts to ban HP sauce from the House of Commons dining rooms following the Aston factory closure announcement. She also wrote to the Managing Director of Heinz demanding that the company withdraw the use of the distinctive Houses of Parliament logo if production was moved to Holland.
Lorely Burt said:
"I am greatly saddened to see the loss production at Aston for a sauce that has graced British breakfast tables for 100 years when the factory finally closes tomorrow.
"I applaud the efforts of rooftop protester, John Bull, who spoke for the nation today when he displayed a banner from the top of the Aston factory saying 'Heinz, you heartless swines'.
"There's nothing more that really needs to be said."
