Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has welcomed today's announcement by BIA to beef up airport security after her calls for a single border control following recent security lapses.
The decision to invest £100,000 on a security assurance programme comes as a result of an internal review and will mean that there are centralised checks and monitoring of all sub-contractors working at the airport.
Lorely Burt MP said:
"It makes sense to have someone responsible for monitoring security standards and implementation across the board at BIA. This is a step in the right direction towards joined up security and I feel sure these measures will reinforce confidence for air travellers using Birmingham.
"Security is too important to leave to the vagaries of the tendering process for subcontractors delivering airport services."
