Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has this afternoon hailed the decision of local police chiefs to give extra backing for this year's Remembrance Day marches in Solihull as "very gratifying".
Following discussions with the police just this morning, Mrs Burt raised the spectre of British Legion branches across the borough facing big bills for extra road barriers following a decision not to allow rolling road closures, whilst many officers would have been deployed for duty at the Birmingham Villa football derby.
But at the eleventh hour, Divisional Commander, Superintendent Andronov contacted the Solihull MP to say that there has been a change of heart and that they would allow rolling closures for the last time this year to avoid extra expense to the British Legion and to allow them to prepare for the changes next year.
"This is tremendous news and I am very grateful for this decision by Solihull Police. I know it is very difficult to prioritise police time, but I feel sure that Solihull residents will warmly welcome this change of heart.
"All the poppy money raised locally will now go to where it is intended, towards supporting war veterans and their families. I am very grateful to the police for their decision."
