Solihull's MP and Lib Dem small business spokesperson, Lorely Burt today hailed Nick Clegg's party conference speech as 'groundbreaking', saying that plans to cut tax for low and average earning families and reign in on inefficient government spending as being 'just what the country needs'.
Speaking from Bournemouth, Lorely said:
"We are proposing big reductions in income tax for struggling families on low and middling incomes, and we will identify £20billion in savings from inefficient government projects, together with closing tax loopholes for the super rich to pay for it."
"This is a big departure from our previous tax policy, but in today's Britain it confirms that the Liberal Democrats are now the only party with a clear plan to make Britain a fairer place, giving money back to people who need it most.
"Government can never know how best to spend it - eleven years of Labour government have proved that - instead of wasting billions on failing IT and expanding the surveillance society, we should be putting that money back into the pockets of hard pressed families."
"Liberal Democrats will target investment where it is needed, but once we have invested in essential public services, we will then return money to families rather that take it for central government."
