SOLIHULL MP HOSTS WOMENS' CENTENARY PENSION CAMPAIGN

October 20, 2008 4:11 PM

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt will host a reception in Westminster on Wednesday for the National Pensioners Convention as part of its Pension Centenary Campaign.

Following in the footsteps of women pension pioneers, the Pension Centenary Campaign calls on the government to raise the basic state pension above the official poverty level of £151 per week for all men and women, and increase pensions annually in line with earnings.

Lorely, who has strong links with the Solihull Pensioners Convention, will address around sixty pensioners from the Women's Working Party before their lobby of parliament.

"It's a great honour to host a reception for this group of women following in the footsteps of the early pension pioneers," said Lorely.

"Pensioners have been particularly hard hit by financial instability and rocketing prices. They deserve to live their retirement years in dignity and should not feel obliged to choose between food and fuel this winter."

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
