Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has requested a full debate in parliament on housing figures following the government's announcement that they want to build up to 20,600 extra homes in the borough.
Mrs Burt raised the issue on the floor of the Commons with Deputy Prime Minister, Harriet Harman MP, saying a thorough discussion should take place following the late addition of housing numbers through an outside consultant, tripling the target discussed and voted on by local councillors.
"Government has gone behind the backs of locally elected representatives by commissioning a report from Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners that has trebled the agreed figures overnight.
"Local people are understandably very angry about this. They want to know just where Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners propose that we build a new town the size of Lichfield without destroying the balance we have in our existing towns and communities."
Ms Harman said the matter would be discussed at a regional select committee meeting this week. Mrs Burt said she would be making strong representations during the consultation period on the new numbers, which was extended to December.
