Solihull's MP Lorely Burt joined staff at W H Smith in Mell Square this week to promote the Woodland Trust Christmas card recycling scheme, running nationwide from 2nd to 31st January.
Customers can take their Christmas cards for recycling to participating stores at W H Smith, T K Maxx, Tesco and M&S
Lorely said:
"W H Smith in Solihull has five bins on display for customers and has already collected thousands of cards.
"You can put your cards into recycling bins in any participating store. The Woodland Trust will then recycle them and plant thousands of young trees to create new native woodland sites.
"Last year, the public recycled an impressive total of 73.6 million Christmas cards which enabled the Woodland Trust to plant 17,000 trees. If everyone recycles just one Christmas card with us this year it will raise enough funds to plant a further 15,000 trees."
