GRESWOLD SCHOOL PUPILS 'GO BANANAS' FOR FAIRTRADE

February 24, 2009 11:45 AM

Greswold school pupils 'go bananas' with Lorely Burt and Tom TaylorSolihull's MP, Lorely Burt joined pupils from Greswold Primary School who have decided to 'go bananas' for Fairtrade Fortnight!

Mrs Burt joined the school's Fairtrade fruit supplier, Tom Taylor from New Cornucopia to help the children launch Fairtrade Fortnight, which starts today and runs until the 8th March.

"The Fairtrade Foundation are organising an attempt to break the world record for the greatest number of people to eat a Fairtrade banana in a 24 hour period. This initiative involves every person eating just one Fairtrade banana between noon on 6th March and noon on 7th March, and recording the total number of participants with the Fairtrade Foundation.

"134,223 people have already registered for the event, and I know the school will be doing their best to make sure they all become world record breakers too!" said Lorely.

"The Fairtrade Foundation aims to secure a fair deal for producers as well as suppliers in countries less well off than ourselves, so it's great to see young people here in Solihull supporting the event."

If you are a resident of the Solihull constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
