Lorely Burt MP is today encouraging families in Solihull to commit to change and sign up for the Fitter Families initiative, led by Gladiators host and former England striker, Ian Wright MBE.
If none of us change our habits, 60% of the nation will be obese by 2050, with an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. This is why Change for Life and supermarket Asda have teamed up with Fit for Sport the UK's leading healthy lifestyle activities provider, to encourage families to make lifestyle changes together.
Families can sign up at www.fitterfamilies.com and commit to simple, achievable and sustainable changes to their lifestyle, which will increase their fitness over the long term.
The book's authors, Ian Wright and Fit for Sport CEO and founder, Dean Horridge, have taken a proactive approach to engaging the whole family in a healthier, more active way of life.
Filled with easy steps that families can take together, from walking to school to taking the dog for a walk, the advice in the book aims to get families motivated enough o build fun, healthy activities into their everyday lives.
Lorely said: "Family fitness is a crucial issue, not just in Solihull but around the UK. I admire the small steps that Ian Wright and Dean Horridge advocate, as constituents often tell me that they find it hard to find time for a rigorous exercise regime or diet, which often don't last. I'll be signing up to Fitter Families and seeing if I can commit to change, and I encourage my constituents to do the same."
Ian Wright commented: "I think that it's important people in Solihull do have the chance to commit to change and that's why role models are so important. Lorely is setting a great example to families and I want to hear how it goes. This is all about making small changes for a better, healthier lifestyle, not running a marathon or giving up sweets! This means Simple, Achievable and Sustainable changes for the long term future health of your family."
