Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has signed a Marie Curie petition backing the charity's bid for planning permission for a new hospice between Marsh Lane and Warwick Road.
The Marie Curie charity want to build a new hospice there after searching eight years for a suitable site in Solihull to replace its current antiquated buildings, which were once a prep school and are no longer fit for purpose.
The site is on designated green belt land but may remain the only viable site available to keep the Hospice and the Marie Curie team in Solihull
Lorely Burt MP said:
"As someone who instinctively recoils from building on green belt, this has proved a difficult dilemma for me, and I have spent much time looking at the plans as proposed and speaking to local residents, planning officers and Marie Curie themselves.
"However, I am supporting their application because I do fear that we could lose Marie Curie from Solihull if this planning application is refused. The nearest hospice would then be the John Taylor in Erdington, which itself is already full.
"I want Marie Curie to remain at the heart of all that is caring and generous in the people of Solihull. We have to see what the officers report of course, but I'm backing Marie Curie and have signed their petition in support of the planning application."
