Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt is urging constituents to make sure they are on the electoral register.
The call comes as Solihull Council undertakes its annual canvass to update electoral registers.
Lorely Burt MP said:
"With local elections and a UK Parliamentary General Election due to take place before June 2010, it is very important to make sure constituents are eligible to vote and can have their say.
"Residents in Solihull are not automatically entitled to vote just because they pay council tax or have voted before.
"The Electoral Commission has a dedicated website set up for voters which can be found at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk
"It is especially useful for those voting at a General Election for the first time, offering guidance on how to register and a cartoon that takes voters through the entire process. They also have a range of leaflets available in different languages."
