Monkspath School celebrates its Rights Respecting School Award with a visit from Lorely Burt MP

November 24, 2009 4:30 PM

Lorely at Monkspath SchoolPupils at Monkspath Junior & Infant School were delighted when local MP Lorely Burt took time out of her busy schedule, to offer her congratulations on becoming a Rights Respecting School.

Monkspath School is the first in the borough to achieve the UNICEF UK Level 1 Rights Respecting School Award and the visit by Lorely, which fell on the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), was to understand more about what this means to the children at the school.

The team of pupils responsible for communicating the ethos of a Rights Respecting School across all year groups gave Lorely a tour and explained how the UNCRC enhances pupils' understanding of the consequences of individual and group actions on the rights of others locally and globally.

Speaking about the visit, Lorely said "I am very impressed with all the work the children have been doing and have learnt a lot. It is so important that children learn to respect each other and the environment as well as develop a positive understanding of their basic rights and responsibilities."

If you are a resident of the Solihull constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
