Lorely Burt, MP for Solihull, will be attending a meeting of the Heart of England Foundation Trust in which the future of the Solihull Hospital Maternity Service will be discussed.
The meeting follows the announcement that the maternity ward will be closed on a temporary basis to allow for staff retraining for a midwife led service.
Lorely, who has recently written a letter to the Secretary of Health asking him to intervene in the decision to downgrade the hospital said:
"It is bad enough that the Trust are downgrading the maternity service in Solihull, albeit on a supposedly temporary basis. Now we learn that the unit will be closed altogether for 'staff retraining', and many staff have been notified they will play no part in the new service."
"I will be asking tough questions at the Trust Board meeting on Wednesday such as : how long will the unit be closed, what will happen to mothers due to give birth during this period, will any staff be made redundant and finally on what authority are they flouting the legal consultation process?"
