Lorely Burt, speaking after the announcement said:
"The Secretary of State's recent announcement is welcome news to everyone who has been fighting so hard to maintain the services of Solihull hospital."
"This finally ends years of Labour's top down management of NHS services from Whitehall and puts it back in the hands of the people who use them most.
"The Liberal Democrats were committed to bring more local input in the NHS and I am glad to see the Department of Health and the coalition government implementing these measures so quickly."
"The new criterion means that there is a reprieve on the downgrade of the maternity services and we should be getting real consultation where local will have a real say."
