MP calls for volunteers to work with Solihull's Youth12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 1st Sep 2005 Solihull MP Lorely Burt is calling on caring people in the local community to volunteer to help our young people. Solihull Council for Voluntary Service last night celebrated the work of volunteer groups throughout the Borough. Young volunteers received awards for their contributions towards developing young people's groups. Attendees included The Mayor and Mayoress of Solihull, Lorely Burt MP and award winners from X. Stream, SoLO and Knowle Youth Club. Mayor Cllr Alan Martin said 'These young people are our future. They deserve our support'. Lorely Burt said 'Some people are very ready to criticise our young people, but here are 57 organisations working with over 11,000 young people. All these organisations, from the Guides to SoLO, which works with learning disabled youngsters, need adults and young people to get involved and make our Borough a better place.' Three groups gave presentations on their achievements in the year, both at home and abroad. 'The presentations were really inspiring. Anyone with a few spare hours a week would find helping out a hugely rewarding experience' added Lorely. Anyone interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities should contact Development Worker Karen Streets on 0121 711 9769 or scvys@hotmail.com.
