Lorely Burt, Member of Parliament for Solihull has welcomed the motion passed by West Midlands Liberal Democrats Regional Conference, rejecting the plans for a second runway at Birmingham International Airport.
"The Liberal Democrats understand that the expansion of Birmingham Airport is hugely important to the economic success of our region" explained Solihull MP Lorely Burt. "However, these specific plans include the creation of a second runway. We do not consider the case for this has been made," she added.
The motion was supported by over 80% of the delegates in the conference hall, in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The current plans proposed by the Airport Authorities include building on green belt, with no additional infrastructure in the current plans to deal with additional car movements a second runway would create.
