Light Hall Head Teacher, Vic Scutt shows Lorely Burt MP the work in progress on site clearance ready for rebuilding after the recent fire.

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt today visited fire damaged Light Hall school and pledged to contact Government Ministers to seek extra help to rebuild the school.

Mrs Burt was given a tour of the school by Head Teacher, Vic Scutt. She heard that the rebuilding programme was set to be completed by December 2007, but said that the Maths block , which survived the blaze, should ideally be replaced at the same time to bring it up to the same standard as the new classrooms.

"I will be contacting Ministers to see if any extra money can be found to help upgrade the maths block at the same time as classrooms on that side of the school are being rebuilt.

"If nothing is done, the maths block will be a eyesore and will need replacing in a very few years. The Government is committed to building schools fit for the future, and I hope I can persuade Ministers of the common sense of helping to finance the extra work now," said Mrs Burt.

The Solihull MP praised the efforts of all concerned to get the school up and running following extensive fire damage.

"Parts of the school destroyed by fire have already been demolished and plans are now in place to receive all pupils back to the campus to continue their studies next week. This has been a tremendous effort by all concerned, and other local schools have also offered teaching resources and their facilities as Light Hall strives to get back to normal," said Mrs Burt.
