Pertemps Bees welcomed Wooden Spoon, the charity of British and Irish rugby, to Sharmans Cross Road on Saturday in an effort to help swell regional funds enabling more local disadvantaged children to benefit through the support of the club.

£1500 was raised during their home game with Bedford.

Having previously supported Lode Heath School in Solihull, the charity hopes to donate much needed playground equipment to Reynalds Cross special school in Shirley. 14 year-old Ryan Llellewyn, a pupil at the school, was chosen as mascot for the day and thoroughly enjoyed his special day along with his family.

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt attended the match and helped sell raffle tickets to swell the coffers. Lorely said:

"Spoons is a marvellous charity that benefits disadvantaged youngsters in the UK and Ireland, including here in Solihull. I was delighted to lend my support to their fundraising efforts for future projects."

Phil Pemble, local Wooden Spoons Chairman said, "On behalf of the charity I was delighted with the generosity shown by both Bees and Bedford supporters. Every penny we raised on the afternoon will be doubled by Spoon nationally so it was a fantastic result all round. I am also particularly pleased with the value placed by the club in helping others less fortunate in the community, such partnerships with the charity are clearly of benefit to everyone."

Pertemps Bees president Brian Marshall who extended the invite commented, "As any business in the heart of the community, it is important to nurture relationships that are of mutual benefit. I believe that as our chosen charity, any association with Wooden Spoon can only have a real positive effect for the club."
