MP OFFERS SUPPORT FOR LECTURERS AND STUDENTS

12.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 16th May 2006

Following complaints from concerned students and parents, Lorely Burt, Liberal Democrat MP for Solihull, has tabled an Early Day Motion recognising the strain the AUT university strike is putting on students and encouraging the quick resolution of the situation.

If the strike continues, many students fear they will not be able to graduate this year.

Commenting, Lorely Burt MP said,

"I know a many students are feeling the strain of not knowing if they are going to be able to graduate this summer. Students here in Solihull, helping in my office and throughout the country are already dealing with exams, this just piles on the pressure.

"This is a situation that needs to be sorted quick. I'm very happy that the Education Select Committee is looking into the matter now as well."
