WEBSITES ARE NO USE IF PEOPLE ARE NOT ON THE WEB - BURT

12.00.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 16th May 2006

Lorely Burt, Liberal Democrat MP for Solihull, has welcomed the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council's new campaign encouraging residents to use its website but says the Council must do more to help those who can't access the internet.

Commenting on the Council's campaign, Lorely Burt MP said,

"It's great that the Council is encouraging people to use its website, but it doesn't help those who don't have internet access.

"Many residents come to see me during my weekly surgery because they cannot access Council services or the Council just isn't listening to them. It's often the people who need help the most that don't have internet access. The Council needs to ensure that they can also use Council services."
