Prescott perks continue - Burt

3.17.04pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 1st Jun 2006

Lorely Burt, Liberal Democrat MP for Solihull, has hit out at John Prescott's continuing perks after he gave up his Dorneywood grace-and-favour mansion.

Commenting on the Deputy Prime Minister's situation, Lorely Burt said,

"Mr Prescott has become a bit of a laughing stock.

"Tony Blair is dodging tough decisions by only half-sacking Prescott to avoid a deputy leadership election because it would add more pressure to his own situation.

"John Prescott's been left with a massive salary and the use of a grace-and-favour apartment in central London, but is it really worth the job he's been doing?

"If he's not to be trusted with a government department, why is he still in the Cabinet?"
