'Local Food Is Miles Better' Lorely Burt MP

Lorely Burt MP is calling for better promotion of the regular Farmers' Markets in Solihull and Shirley to encourage more constituents to eat quality, locally produced food.
"Buying local produce means we are supporting local farmers and cutting down on the number of miles food travels from the producer to the consumer.
"Transporting food over large distances uses a lot of fuel, whether it travels by lorry or plane, which means that buying local can be fresher and is also good for the environment," said Lorely Burt MP
Mrs Burt has also signed up to a Farmer's Weekly's 'Local Food is Miles Better' campaign in Parliament, calling for all supermarkets and food retailers to promote, stock and label locally produced food in a way that supports local producers and cuts down the distance food is transported.
"This is a positive and forward looking campaign with the aims of benefiting the environment, helping our farmers and local producers market themselves better and improving the nutritional quality of food: I am pleased to offer my support and I will be calling on the Council to do more to promote the Farmer's Markets here in Solihull" added Mrs Burt.
Markets are held the first Friday in every month in Solihull on the High Street and the third Thursday of the Month in Shirley at the main entrance to the park on the Stratford Road.
