WE MUST PROTECT ALL GREEN SPACES - LORLEY BURT MP2.35.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 18th Aug 2006 Responding to news that the Conservatives are launching a new national campaign to protect England's gardens, Lorely Burt, Member of Parliament for Solihull has said: "If only Tory reality lived up to their rhetoric. In Solihull the Conservative council has been busily selling off parkland and open spaces. Protecting our gardens is very important but it isn't enough. We need to ensure that parks, open spaces and recreation areas are only sold off with the consent of a majority of local people. All of these have a role in providing a green lung for our towns and cities. That's why I introduced a Private Member's Bill in July 2005, to preserve our parks, open spaces and gardens". The Local Government and Planning (Parkland and Windfall Development) Bill was introduced by Lorely in July 2005 and will receive its second reading on the 20th October 2006.
