BURT SAYS NO TO NUCLEAR WASTE IN SOLIHULL
12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 4th Oct 2006
Solihull MP Lorely Burt has reacted angrily to suggestions that the Government is reconsidering Solihull as a possible location for the underground disposal of nuclear waste.
Lorely Burt said,
"I will fight vehemently against the underground burial of radioactive material in Solihull. This nuclear waste will remain highly toxic for thousands of years and the last place it should be buried is nearby centres of population.
The last generation of nuclear power stations created enough waste to fill Wembley Stadium and we are still to make a decision on how to dispose of this waste. This underlines the argument against the building of a new generation of nuclear power stations."
