SOLIHULL MP AND LIBDEM COUNCIL GROUP LAUNCH ENVIRONMENT SURVEY12.00.00am GMT Wed 17th Jan 2007 Lorely Burt MP and Liberal Democrat Council Group Leader, Norman Davies have launched an environment survey that will be delivered by volunteers to 40,000 homes in Solihull. The survey is in response to the challenge of climate change and the desire for more conservation, energy saving and recycling in the borough. Lorely Burt said: "Climate change is the greatest challenge of our times, and the Lib Dems are setting the pace on ways to change our behaviour both in Solihull and nationally. This year, we have taken a big step by putting forward practical proposals for a 'green switch' - cutting taxes such as income tax whilst raising taxes on actions which damage the environment. It has changed the terms of the political debate. Councillor Norman Davies said: "Responses have already started to flood in from residents. We are confident that we will get a big response to our survey which will keep us informed of the real wishes of Solihull people and help shape our plans for the council. "We need to do all we can to improve the environment and will continue to hold the other parties to account when their actions fail to match their words."
