MP PRAISES LIGHT HALL PUPILS FOR GOING GREEN12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 18th Jun 2007
Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt visited Light Hall School on Monday to find out how Year 7 pupils have been turning the school green. Pupils from each Year 7 form have been encouraged to save energy and recycle both in school and at home, and have received 'merits ' for saving paper, switching off lights and appliances on standby, recycling materials and keeping the school litter free. Each form has chosen a 'Eco-Rep' who records the progress of pupils on a merit chart. Solihull Council has also agreed to supply collection boxes for paper recycling in each classroom from September. Lorely Burt MP said: "I was very impressed with the presentation given to me by Eco-Reps, Alex Bush and Zac Mountford explaining the efforts of all the Year 7 pupils. I am glad that Solihull Council has agreed to assist with waste paper collection at the school, but feel that so much more could be done and will be writing to the Leader of the Council to encourage closer partnership with the borough's schools to aid their recycling efforts."
