MP'S ANGER AS T-MOBILE TURN DOWN PLEA ON WIDNEY LANE MAST

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 10th Oct 2007

Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt reacted angrily to mobile phone company, T-Mobile's response to her call to turn off the controversial mast installation at Widney Lane following their meeting last week.

Mrs Burt had asked T-Mobile to de-activate the station and re-apply for planning permission, but today the phone giant said the installation would be integrated into their network over the next few days and that they would not re-submit their application, having already followed the due planning process.

Lorely Burt MP said:

"T-Mobile have shown scant regard for the public they serve in this matter. They have taken advantage of a council blunder to impose a huge installation on Widney Lane that nobody wanted.

"Since they are within their legal rights, it looks as though residents are stuck with it. The whole episode has seen a catalogue of errors, culminating in a council blunder allowing the application in through the back door.

"T-Mobile informed me that St Alphege Councillors each received letters informing them of their plans which were sent by recorded delivery on March 7th this year. They claim to have received no response from local councillors on the issue."
