Mrs Burt will join her parliamentary colleagues arguing for a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union during the debate on the Lisbon Treaty, saying it will give the British people a clear choice on Europe for the first time in over 30 years.
"No one in Britain under the age of 51yrs has ever had a say on our membership of Europe, and neither have half our MPs.
"We want that real referendum because if Britain is to stride forward confidently into the 21st century and tackle global issues like climate change, terrorism and drug trafficking we need to decide once and for all whether our future lies within the European Union, or outside it.
"The Conservatives are proposing a restrictive referendum on the Lisbon Treaty that would not give British people a say on our fundamental relationship with Europe. And what would happen if they succeeded in rejecting the treaty in a referendum?
