BURT WELCOMES £11MILLION PUBLIC TRANSPORT BOOST FOR AIRPORT7.18.17am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 20th May 2008 Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt has welcomed conditional approval for an £11.1million public transport from government to improve public transport for Birmingham International Airport and NEC. Plans to enhance public services include highway structure improvements, better bus and coach services, including more links to surrounding areas like Coleshill, increased bus priority at junctions, improved GPS for real-time timetable information for passengers and further improvements to pedestrian and cycle ways at both locations. Lorely Burt MP welcomed the promise of further investment but said the plans did not go far enough: "I welcome the commitment to further public transport investment announced by Transport Minister, Rosie Winterton, but much more needs to be done to encourage people to switch from using their cars. "Projected increase in use of the airport and the NEC means we have to redouble our efforts to protect the environment. "I will continue to press for a shuttle bus service from Solihull station to the airport, linking travellers from the M5 corridor directly by rail.
