BURT BACKS BID FOR CYBERMENTORS IN SOLIHULL5.58.29pm GMT Tue 17th Mar 2009 Solihull's MP, Lorely Burt is calling for young people in Solihull to volunteer to train to be CyberMentors under a government funded scheme to help their peers combat cyber bullying in chat rooms on the internet. CyberMentors forms part of the Government's Peer Mentoring pilot and aims to have a trained CyberMentor in every school and college within five years. "Cyber bullying is something that many older people have never had to deal with and often don't understand," said Lorely. "That's why it's important to train peers of a similar age to tackle the problems faced by many young people on the internet today. "Although the pilot scheme has not yet been rolled out in Solihull, young people from anywhere can go to www.cybermentors.org.uk and get help and support from other young people, and trained counsellors if needed. "I have also been assured that via the website, young people can request to be a CyberMentor and where possible, training sessions can be arranged outside the areas where face to face mentoring is funded this year - so why not try it and train as a CyberMentor to help tackle bullying on the net?"
