JAGUAR LAND ROVER: POLITICIANS, UNIONS AND WORKFORCE MUST PULL TOGETHER SAYS BURT

2.11.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 25th Sep 2009

Commenting on the announcement that JLR will be consolidating the two midlands plants into one plant, local MP Lorely Burt said:

'TATA has already shown great commitment to making JLR work and has invested heavily. Then fact that no jobs losses are involved is an extremely important commitment to workers, their families and the midlands economy.

I'll be doing all I can to work with the unions, the workforce and the company to pull together and get the best possible framework to ensure the future success and prosperity for the company.'

On which plant will close, she commented: 'Obviously I hope Solihull will remain. Land Rover is a world leading brand, and until last year was making record sales and profits. Solihull is the home of Land Rover and the engine of the entire company.'
