Solihull MP re-elected as chair of Parliamentary Party12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 25th Jun 2010 Solihull MP Lorely Burt has said she is 'delighted' to be re-elected unopposed as chair of the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party. Speaking after her re-election earlier this week, she said 'It is a privilege for me to be re-elected as parliamentary party chair. The role is a very important one and I am honoured that the party has once again put their faith in me.' When Lorely was elected as the party's first female chair in October 2007, she promised to bring Liberal Democrat policies to the forefront of British politics. Now that they are in government for the first time in decades Lorely is proud of what the party has achieved, but says that her job now is to make sure the Liberal Democrats do not lose their voice as a result of being in coalition. Lorely said 'The current coalition is necessary in providing strong and stable government for the British people and I'm absolutely committed to that. However, I recognise the importance of the Liberal Democrats having a powerful independent voice whilst working alongside our Conservative colleagues.' 'It is my job to ensure that all our MPs and party members have as much say as they did before the election. I will strive to act as a voice for Liberal Democrats everywhere to ensure that everyone still has their opinion heard.'
